Hotel Information: The classic Mediterranean style seen in this resort’s white exteriors, arches, and columned pathways also incorporates Mexican touches, such as stenciled accents, ochre walls, and brown leather and rattan seating. Water is no more than a few steps away, whether it’s the sea, swimming pools, or the numerous fountain pools that line the walkways. Adding to the relaxed ambience is the uncrowded feel, even when the resort is full.

Amenity highlights: Water encircles the two-story round spa, allowing guests to swim in. Guests can also walk in through billowing floor-to-ceiling curtains. Of the 14 treatment rooms, six have ocean views, including four for couples’ treatments. The menu includes a marine treatment circuit incorporating high-pressure hoses and a stone walk; a lily wrap; and a green coffee treatment. The 440 suites of Excellence Riviera Cancún All Inclusive are housed in 14 buildings of four stories each. All suites have a private balcony or patio, furnished with upholstered built-in seating and chairs (ground-floor units also have a hammock). Views are of the ocean or pools.

Four-poster king or double beds with triple sheeting and pillow menus come in all rooms. Marble bathrooms include a jetted tub, double vanities, a shower and a separate toilet with telephone. Plush white bathrobes, slippers, and scales add luxury touches. Private pass-through boxes allow delivery and pick-up of items without guests having to answer the door. Turndown service is provided.

Guests can take advantage of kayaks, snorkeling gear, sail boats, and windsurfers to enjoy the turquoise water in front of this beachfront hotel. Because this water is in a protected area, access to the ocean with sports equipment incurs a Mexican government tax of US$2 per person, per stay. Those staying on land can play tennis, run on a trail that encircles the resort, join a game of volleyball or billiards, or try their hand at shooting or archery.
