Rooms at Maya Tankah by Freedom Paradise All Inclusive are housed in either a series of thatched roof buildings or in a yellow, Mediterranean style, oceanfront building. All rooms feature a balcony or patio (may be private or part of a shared walkway) furnished with a table, two chairs, and hammock. Décor is Mexican-Caribbean with tile decoration on the walls, ceramic tile floor, and colorful furnishings. Air conditioning, ceiling fans, satellite TV, telephones, and bathroom amenities are standard. In-room safes (surcharge) can be requested.

Recreation

A coral reef just offshore provides a protected, calm area for swimming and snorkeling. Guests at Maya Tankah can join staff to feed sardines to the seagulls, pelicans, and ospreys who visit the beach. Other popular activities include kayaking, tours of the cenotes (freshwater pools and lagoons), plus tennis, beach volleyball, and a number of classes including meditation, yoga, tai chi and Mayan horoscopes.

Staff can help arrange trips to a variety of attractions including the ruins at Tulúm and Cobá, Xel-Há Park, Xcaret Park, and the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve (surcharges for all). Guests can play the nine-hole course at Puerto Aventuras Golf Course, 20 km (12.5 miles) from the hotel (surcharge for golf fees and equipment rentals).

Located 98 km (61 miles) from Cancún International Airport and 4 km (2.5 miles) from the Tulúm ruins, this hotel lies along a white-sand beach in an area that once served as a Mayan ceremonial center and holy tankah or “place of free souls.” This location defines the hotel’s emphasis on the area’s nature, history, and culture.

Members of the hotel’s ecological and cultural department introduce guests to local natural phenomena with activities that include bird feeding on the beach, tours of cenotes (natural freshwater pools with underwater caves and caverns), and tours to see “water eyes,” which are non-salty water flows in the ocean. The hotel walkways feature signs with pictures and explanations of the area’s birds, iguanas, fish, and other creatures.

The hotel encourages relaxation and spiritual fulfillment with classes in yoga, tai chi, meditation, Mayan oracles, and essences of wild flowers. Other amenities include four walk-in swimming pools; two are used for activities, and the smallest is favored by honeymooners. Snorkeling is popular in the protected area between the beach and the coral reef just offshore. A tennis court allows daytime play.

Under the shade of palm trees on the beach, guests can enjoy massages (surcharges) from private vendors. A shop in the hotel sells souvenirs, gifts, and newspapers; it provides one computer for rent, with high-speed Internet access (surcharge). A wedding chapel based on a Mayan palapa or conical, thatched-roof design can be booked for ceremonies. A doctor is on call.

Chula Vista - This open-air restaurant off the lobby offers a wide view of the Caribbean, and serves International cuisine, buffet meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Cielito Lindo - Featuring Mexican specialties, this air-conditioned restaurant is open for dinner only. Reservations are required.

Bar Pelícanos - Located right on the beach between two swimming pools, this bar serves both drinks and snacks, with entertainment provided by the pelicans fishing for lunch off the beach.

Lobby Bar - Drinks served from mid-morning through the evening, with occasional marimba music.

Bar Iguanas - This swim-up pool and beach bar has swing chairs for one or two persons. Open from early afternoon.
