Travel Details

The Langham, Melbourne

Hotel Information: An understated entrance from the Southgate business park area belies the Langham’s grand interior, which features three levels of marble fountains topped by large crystal chandeliers and complemented by fresh flowers, leaf-print tapestry wall panels, and a collection of original Australian artwork. Classical background music is a suitable soundtrack for the Langham’s clientele, which includes business travelers, sophisticated holidaymakers, and local couples on weekend escapes.

Amenity highlights: Direct views of the Yarra River and city skyline from the ninth-storey indoor pool area make a lap swim or a soak in the spa tub double as a chance to take in some city sights. Further relaxation can be found in Chuan Spa, which offers seven treatment rooms, saunas, steam rooms, and a treatment menu based on the Chinese Five Elements. Public-area wireless Internet access and a lobby-area business centre cater to business travelers.

Insider tip: Although the Langham is well situated for walking to nearby points of interest, those with more leisurely sightseeing in mind can book short cruises along the Yarra River. These float past city landmarks or take guests up to Willliamstown, a small seaside village that is home to stately historical buildings and seaman’s cottages.

Spa

Located on level nine in the health club/pool area, Chuan Spa offers seven treatment rooms, men’s and women’s dressing areas with locker facilities, separate steam rooms and saunas, and private rooms for post-treatment relaxation.

Philosophy (click here)

In Chinese, chuan means “flowing water” and represents the rebirth and rebalancing of the entire being. Chaun Spa is a place designed to create an ambience of tranquility for contemplation and inspiration. Treatments aim to nurture, heal, and restore, and use products that represent the Five Elements: wood, earth, metal, fire, and water. To this end, guests are asked to complete a brief lifestyle elemental questionnaire before each treatment in order to determine which treatments suit their needs.
