The smoke-free Clarion Suites Gateway comprises 118 studios and suites across floors 5–19. These provide sofa beds, work desks, dining tables, kitchens with crockery and cutlery, and refrigerated minibars. Amenities include high-speed Internet access (surcharge), direct-dial phones with voice mail, cable TVs with pay movies, and complimentary newspapers.

Recreation

A 15-metre, indoor, heated pool is located on level 5 of the Clarion Suites Gateway. There is also a small sun-deck area. Guests have complimentary access to an adjacent fitness centre.

Opposite the hotel is Enterprise Park, where guests may walk/jog along the Yarra River. Offering a similar water vantage is the larger Batman Park, 200 metres away. The cycle- and walkway of Southbank promenade is about 250 metres away, across Queens Bridge. Approximately 3 km away is Albert Park, encompassing some 225 hectares of sporting and recreational facilities for jogging, cycling, swimming, walking, diving, netball, tennis, cricket and indoor cricket, squash, soccer, baseball, hockey, lawn bowls, boating, golf, and table tennis.

Property Amenities

Located in the south-western fringes of the city centre, the 19-storey, smoke-free Clarion Suites Gateway looks across the Yarra River towards the popular entertainment precinct of Southbank. After dark, the Crown Casino’s trademark ‘fireball’ night shows provide Las Vegas-style views from the higher floors of the hotel. An indoor, heated pool and sun deck are located on level 5, along with a small business centre and coin-operated guest laundry. Special arrangements allow guests complimentary use of an adjacent fitness centre. Both high-speed and wireless Internet access are available, and a function room with sweeping views over south Melbourne is located on level 19. A valet grocery delivery service is available to guests; groceries are generally delivered on the day of order. Access to lifts, apartments, and the car park is via security key-card.

Business centre: This is located on level 5, and comprises one workstation, a printer, and a photocopier (copies complimentary for small jobs of up to several pages).

Internet access: Wireless Internet access is available across the reception area and restaurant for a surcharge (implemented by the service provider). Guests simply log on and follow the prompts; charges are paid via credit card. High-speed Internet access is available for a surcharge in the business centre and the function room on level 19.

Conference/function rooms: The Yarra River Room, located on level 19, is approximately 60 square metres in size and can accommodate up to 70 guests for cocktails, or 30 guests for a boardroom-style meeting. The room offers sweeping views over the Yarra River and Southbank.

Instructions: Taxi stands are located at the airport just outside the international and domestic terminals. The hotel is located on William Street, on the corner of Flinders Street, near the Melbourne Aquarium.

Driving directions from Melbourne International Airport (MEL): Exit the airport and take the Tullamarine Freeway, southbound, following sign-posted directions to the city. After approximately 10.5 km, take the Citylink Tollway at Strathmore and continue for approximately 11 km. Bear left at the ramp exit at Port Melbourne and then continue along the Westgate Freeway, heading eastwards. After 0.5 km, take the ramp exit at Southbank, then, after approximately 0.5 km, bear right at Lorimer Street. Almost immediately, bear left at Charles Grimes Bridge Road. After approximately 400 metres, turn right into Flinders Street. After 900 metres, turn left at William Street. The hotel is immediately on the left. Please note: travellers using the Citylink Tollway without an e-TAG device fitted to their vehicle should phone 13 26 29 (within Australia) prior to travel, to arrange an appropriate tollway pass. If retrospective payment is required, travellers should phone the same number as soon as possible on the same day of travel to arrange payment via credit card.

Schedules and directions (subject to change without notice): Shuttle buses depart the airport for downtown Melbourne at regular intervals. Travellers should ask at the airport information counter for the departure point of the Starbus shuttle, which stops in front of the Clarion Suites Gateway (on the corner of William and Flinders streets). A return shuttle transfer can be booked at the hotel’s front desk; guests are requested to allow at least 1–2 days’ notice for shuttle bookings, if possible.

William’s Bar and Café - Hot and cold buffet and à la carte breakfast and à la carte lunch and dinner daily. Modern Australian and international café-style food, light meals, and full-course dining. Coffee/tea, beverages (including Australian and international wine selection), and snacks served all day. Located on ground level, adjacent to lobby and reception. Open from early morning until late evening. Friday-night ‘happy hour’ in the bar area from late afternoon until early evening.
