Insider tip: Three miles south of Maui is a long, uncrowded stretch of sand called Keawakapu Beach that begins in front of the Mana Kai Resort. Next to the Mana Kai is a public parking lot. Signs point the way to the beach, which offers great snorkeling along its rocky northern terminus, terrific boogie boarding when the tradewinds blow, and long, tropical-fantasy walks. (Buildings along the beach seldom exceed palm-tree height, somewhat preserving the illusion the beachfront is undeveloped.)
Rooms
This Maui resort has 225 units located in two buildings set at an angle to afford maximum ocean views. All condominium suites contain have full kitchens, two bathrooms, washer/dryer units, and TVs with VCRs. Each room also has a lanai with partial views of the ocean and the resort's manicured grounds. Dial-up Internet access is available complimentary and wireless Internet access is available for a surcharge. Units at the Maui Sunset are nonsmoking with air conditioning and ceiling fans.

Recreation
This Hawaii resort includes four shuffleboard courts, a croquet lawn, a putting green, and ready access to two tennis courts in the county park separating Maui Sunset from the ocean. Many other recreational opportunities exist in South Maui. The activities desk near the pool arranges these.
There are 17 golf courses in South and West Maui, including four resort courses and one public course within five miles of Maui Sunset. The activities desk makes reservations at them all.
The activities desk can also book snorkeling and scuba diving trips to the island of Molokini off South Maui.
