Hotel Information: Kauhale Makai's two six-story buildings share a common oceanview lawn that opens to tropical, palm-fringed grounds rolling down to the ocean. Sheltered from busy South Kihei Road, and within a mile of shops and restaurants, these condominiums draw seniors, groups, and other leisure travelers.
Amenity highlights: A sunny pool area includes a freeform splash pool, children’s pool, spa tub, putting green, and barbecues. Coin-operated laundry facilities are also on site.
Insider tip: Five miles away, the Maui Ocean Center offers dives in a 750,000-gallon tank with sharks, stingrays, and thousands of tropical reef fish (surcharge; scuba certification required).
Special Check-in Instructions

Across the lawn is Kihei’s sprawling shoreline, with a beach park and four public tennis courts. The beaches of Kihei include Sugar Beach, two miles to the north, and the three Kamaole Parks, four miles to the south. Water activities include snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, and boogie boarding.
During the winter months, whales can sometimes be spotted in front of the hotel.
