A heated pool, sundeck, and spa tub overlook the Japanese gardens. Three lighted tennis courts may be reserved for a fee; racquets and balls are available, and private or small-group lessons can be arranged (surcharges apply). The fitness center offers complimentary exercise classes, free weights, multi-station machines, and cardio equipment, including virtual-reality bikes and climbers programmed to display individualized videos and sounds on 20-inch color monitors; guests select preferred environments, from tropical paradise to mountain hideaway. Bicycles are available for rent. Hotel guests may use the spa sauna, steam room, and locker-room free of charge.
The spa staff recommends safe, scenic jogging routes of 1-5 miles. Concierge can arrange hiking, horseback riding, and trail biking in the Lower Arroyo Recreation Area, about 2.5 miles north of the hotel. The Arroyo-adjacent Brookside Recreation Area is home to the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center and two golf courses; additional courses are nearby. The Angeles National Forest, beginning about three miles from the hotel, offers outstanding hiking, biking, and picnicking.

Club-level guests of this Pasadena retreat are offered a complimentary Continental breakfast each morning, as well as afternoon lunch and tea service, evening sushi and cocktails, and after-dinner dessert and cordials.
The Lobby Lounge - Once the hotel’s main entryway, this ornate but relaxed lounge has floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views of the Horseshoe Garden. Formal afternoon tea is served Thursday–Sunday.
The Pool Patio - Poolside cafe serves frozen martinis, tropical cocktails, and light snacks. Open seasonally.
The Spa - Although there is no regular dining service, spa cuisine can be prepared as a complement to treatment by request.
The Terrace - A casual dining area with wide-window views of the hotel’s picture bridge and swimming area and an outdoor terrace for alfresco dining. California-Mediterranean menu focuses on dishes such as seared ahi tuna on purple potatoes, with Maui onion ragout, mango chutney, and crunchy lotus root. Sunday champagne brunch buffet features crepes, made-to-order omelets, salads, sushi, meats, and desserts.
The Bar - The lobby-side lounge has a both a fireplace and an outdoor deck overlooking the gardens. Weekend evenings, the room is packed with hotel guests and Pasadena locals enjoying jazz and R and B bands, appetizers, and house-favorite cobalt-blue martinis.
The Dining Room - This Michelin Star-rated restaurant provides an intimate environment where guests are treated to exceptional service and modern American cuisine. Menu includes buttered, poached lobster, hand-rolled pasta, snow peas, pepper confit, butternut squash puree and ginger nage. Dinner is served Tuesday–Saturday.
