Hotel Information: This luxury hotel frequented by golfers and couples is located in Lanai’s upcountry, where temperatures are 15 degrees cooler than at the beach. Across the front porch of its plantation-style main building, guests watch the sunset from wicker easy chairs with upholstered cushions. Inside, two fireplaces flank the Great Hall. On the ground floor, the music room with its own fireplace is filled with collectible instruments and a selection of CDs. Grounds include a 1-mile path that winds past an orchid house, gazebo, and Japanese garden; croquet lawns; stables; and an archery and sport-clay shooting range.
Amenity highlights: Hotel representatives greet guests when they arrive on the island and transport them to the hotel, where they are served a glass of pineapple cider and a warm towel. The Great Hall offers complimentary tea and scones in the afternoon and live Hawaiian entertainment nightly. The Experience at Ko’ele golf course, designed by Greg Norman, is surrounded by flora, lakes, and streams; the 8th hole drops 200 feet from tee to green. The complimentary shuttle connects the Lodge with companion hotel Manele Bay Hotel and Spa.
Insider tip: The town square of Lanai, which has only 2,800 full-time residents, is accessible by complimentary shuttle. Two local restaurants, Henry Clay’s Rotisserie and Pele’s Garden, allow resort guests to charge meals to their hotel account. Pele’s also has no corkage fee for diners who bring their own wine, available at the neighboring market.
