Hotel Information: As a member of one of the country’s most respected hotel chains, the ANA Hotel Kyoto is a perennial draw for Japanese travellers. The hotel’s downtown location and spacious lobby lounge make it popular with business travellers, while its reputation for attentive service and its peaceful location near Nijo Castle also attracts a number of families and couples on leisure travel.
Amenity highlights: The hotel contains a half-dozen restaurants. Among these are a formal French restaurant fashioned in the style of a manor house parlour; a restaurant specialising in teppanyaki, meats, and seafood cooked on a flat grill by a chef directly in front of diners; a secluded bar; and a lobby lounge with a view of multiple cascades spilling into the hotel’s garden pond. A health club with an indoor pool and relaxation rooms is also available for guest use.
Insider tip: Most visitors to Kyoto spend the daylight hours walking around the temples on the eastern edge of the city, most of which close at dusk. On the way back to the hotel, travellers with aching feet may wish to stop off at Hankyu Kawaramachi Station. In the building directly to the left of the top of the stairs from exit B is the Ashi Yu Café, which serves tea at tables with footbaths underneath them.
