Hotel Information: One of the Island Outpost one-of-a-kind retreats created by Chris Blackwell, the music, movie, and hotel entrepreneur, this resort is set in a lush tropical garden with bamboo, bougainvillea, jade vines, ginger, roses, and coffee plants. Summer brings cooling mists; winter brings sunshine and cool nights.
Insider tip: A 20-minute walk through the mountains leads to St. Mark's Episcopal Chapel and a cemetery with graves dating from the early 1800s.
Rooms
This resort offers 14 guest units in 12 cream-colored wooden buildings built into the mountainside. Views from balconies are of treetops, deep forested gullies below, other Blue Mountains rising higher than the resort's mountain (Strawberry Hill), and, 3,100 feet below and in the distance, Kingston and its harbor.
Hand-crafted mahogany reproductions of 19th-century Caribbean furniture include platform four-poster beds with white-netting canopies. All-white bedding includes Frette Italian linens and down comforters and pillows. (Both European-style square pillows and American-style rectangles are included.) Mattress warmers prevent dampness.
Air conditioning is unnecessary at this altitude, and louvered windows permit cool mountain air to circulate under high ceilings. Floors are polished wood. White paneling and 19th-century–style fretwork contribute to the colonial ambience. Televisions offer U.S./European cable channels. CD players include CDs. Fresh flowers and fruit plates greet arriving guests.

Recreation
Lined with black concrete so it appears to be a natural mountain pool, an 18.5m (60-ft) kidney-shaped pool on the resort's flat mountaintop features an infinity edge overlooking Kingston and its harbor far below. A stone-wall waterfall cascades below the infinity edge. Wooden and stone sundecks flank the pool.
Elsewhere on the mountaintop are a sauna and an adjacent open-air, black-concrete plunge pool with a panoramic-view sundeck. The mountaintop includes a lawn for complimentary badminton, croquet, and French bowls.
Guided nature/bird-watching hikes through the resort's grounds and the Blue Mountains are available for surcharges. Complimentary bicycles provide another means of touring the mountains.
Yoga classes (surcharge) are offered in an open-air pavilion partly suspended over a deep gully and sided by a lychee tree. A small, complimentary fitness center contains resistance equipment and a few free weights.
The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the resort; fees may apply.
