Spa

The 21,000-square-foot Oriental Spa and health club is located on the hotel’s fifth and sixth floors. Dedicated to the natural elements of fire, water, wood, earth, and metal for a perfect balance of Yin and Yang, it is outfitted with bamboo, natural stone, and gold-leaf accents.

A selection of traditional Asian and signature therapies are given in 15 private treatment rooms, including a VIP spa suite for couples. Men’s and women’s spa areas include rainforest showers, ice fountains, jetted pools set to body temperature, mud treatment rooms (women’s room only), dry saunas, Hamam rooms, and Zen relaxation rooms. The Spa Café offers healthy options from the Cretan, or Mediterranean, diet of fruit, vegetables, cereals, and olive oil. A complementary health club includes yoga and Pilates studios in addition to a variety of fitness equipment.

The Oriental Spa has merged techniques and philosophies from around the world into a blend of treatments and experiences. Guests are guided through a holistic sensory experience that touches the mind, body, and spirit. Therapies bring together ancient and contemporary techniques with an array of heat and water treatments. Soothing tones and organic textures are used in décor. Using products from Mandarin Oriental’s signature line, four hands work in perfect unison in a remarkable experience that inspires a harmony of the senses. The treatment begins with a soothing foot bath in purifying waters. Next, two therapists correspond in time and movement, first providing a warm scrub that smoothes and replenishes the skin, followed by a harmonious synchronized massage that balances the body. The treatment concludes with a simultaneous both head and foot massage.

Rooms

At an average size of 50 square meters (540 square feet), the 113 guestrooms were designed to be personal oases. All have lounge areas with sofas. Beds are topped with 400-thread-count linens. Technological conveniences include an entertainment system designed to accommodate personal digital music players and video cameras, flat-screen TVs with high-definition pay movies and a DVD system with surround-sound stereo. Marble-and-glass bathrooms are outfitted with sunken bathtubs and separate showers with rain showerheads, plus scales and bathrobes and slippers. Recreation

The Oriental Spa also houses a fitness center, Pilates studio, and yoga studio. The fitness center has treadmills, cross trainers, stationary bikes, equipment for strengthening different parts of the body, free weights, fit balls, and a stretch area. Fitness assessments and personal training are available for a surcharge. For a surcharge, the Pilates studio offers Pilates equipment and both private and semi-private sessions for two or more persons. The yoga studio provides both private and group sessions of Mysore, Ashtanga and Hatha yoga (surcharges apply).

The eight-hectare Hong Kong Park, whose facilities include a sports center, squash center, tai chi garden, children’s playground, aviary and conservatory, is about 500 meters (550 yards) away.

Location Details

Hong Kong International Airport (HKG): Approximate travel time is 30–40 minutes and distance is 65 km (40 miles).

Getting there: The Airport Express train is the most efficient and cost-effective way to the hotel. The train stops at Hong Kong (Airport Express) Station, which is connected via a covered walkway to the MTR Central Station. The MTR Central Station is just down the street from the hotel. The hotel also has an airport concierge who will meet guests directly as they step off the air bridge from their aircraft. Guests will be escorted through immigration, baggage collection, and customs control and assisted with their preferred mode of transportation. Rental cars are not recommended for this area.

Getting around: The efficient and well-connected subway (MTR) is the best option for getting around town.

Train schedules and directions (subject to change without notice): The Airport Express line travels from the airport train station to Hong Kong (Airport Express) Station 96 times daily. Trains run every 12 minutes. The first train departs from the airport at 6 AM, the last departs at midnight. Get off at the Hong Kong (Airport Express) Station, and take an 8-minute walk through the covered walkway to Central Station, which is down the street from the hotel

Instructions: Taxi stands are located near Hall A. Most taxi drivers speak some English, but it is advisable to have your destination written in Chinese. While the flag-down fare is HKD15, there are additional charges for tunnel fares and luggage.


Know Before You Go

The government of Hong Kong has waived the Hotel Accommodation Tax for all new bookings made from now for travel July 1, 2008 until further notice. The 10% service fee still applies.

Dining

Amber - This fine-dining restaurant serves haute French cuisine and houses an extensive wine collection navigable by a computerized sommelier system (in addition to the in-house sommelier). Menu highlights include Sesame Oil Seared Yellow Fin Tuna Cubes, 11 Hours Poached Kuro Buta Poke Belly, and Crispy Rice & Black Sesame Mille Feuille. The restaurant bar offers aperitif drinks. Innovative lighting and a ceiling-hung sculpture were designed in amber hues to mirror the restaurant name.

Mo Bar - Architecturally inspired by the catwalks of the fashion world, this bar also features a dominating, red orb taking up the height of one entire wall and symbolizing the Big 0, Chinese symbol for shared experience. Light organic meals are served from lunch onwards. Distinctive dishes include Poached Lobster with Daikon Shavings, Sweet & Sour Dressing, Chilli Oil, and Prawn Tempura.

Spa Café - With a menu based on the Cretan, or Mediterranean, diet pyramid the café’s meals emphasize fruit, vegetables, cereals, and olive oil to promote both wisdom and pleasure.
