Spa treatments are based on the five Chinese elements of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water; its products are based on the Chinese philosophy of yin and yang. Feng shui elements have been incorporated into the spa design. Signature treatments include traditional Chinese massage and stone therapy using hot (yang) and cold (yin) stones. Before treatment, a Five Elements questionnaire is administered in order to determine the ideal products and oils to use for each guest.

Recreation

The hotel’s spa is integrated with the fitness center, which has 12 cardiovascular machines including five treadmills, one upright bike, two recumbent bikes, two rowers, three elliptical machines, and 10 strength training machines. Also included are heart rate and blood pressure monitors, glucose and cholesterol meters, and a body composition analyzer. The 20-meter rooftop heated pool is surrounded by full-length glass windows offering views of Kowloon city. It has underwater lights and music for ambience. Two cabanas with four deck chairs are used for sunbathing and massage. Surcharges apply.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKG): Approximate travel time is 40 minutes and distance is 35 km (22 miles).

Getting there: The fastest route is by Airport Express train. Shuttle bus services can be booked at Counter B04 at the arrival hall. The service will depart from the Ground Transportation Center. Rental cars are not recommended for this area. Chauffeured limousines can be hired for HK450 (US$58) per trip, which will take about 40 minutes.

Getting around: Taxis are easy to hail from along the street or at the hotel. The city’s subway system (MTR) is also convenient, especially for those wanting to avoid peak hour congestion on the roads. The nearest MTR station to the hotel is Mongkok Station, which is connected to the Langham Place Shopping Mall.

Know Before You Go

Dining

Ming Court - Popular Cantonese restaurant serving lunch and dinner and signature dim sum. Contemporary interior design juxtaposed with ancient Han Dynasty pottery accents. Five private rooms available. Open from late morning till late night.

The Place - Lobby-level restaurant seats up to 200. International buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Hand-painted, 23-foot ceiling and mural on central pillar add color to an otherwise simple interior. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in natural light. Outdoor seating for 100 is in landscaped surroundings, also the setting for weekend barbecue seafood buffets. Open from early morning till late night.

Portal – Work & Play - This floor is divided into a “work” and “play” area. An oyster bar is offered each evening. “Play” area has live music nightly and a 132-inch, flat-screen TV showcasing sports and news channels. Serves semi-buffet lunch and high tea. “Work” area has a scattering of tables and leads to the business center and an Internet portal that has three laptops and three desktop computers with complimentary high-speed Internet access.

Chuan Lounge - Located on the 41st story, as part of the Chuan Spa. Moon gate entrance leads to the spa reception area, behind which sits the lounge. Wood accents and flowing water exemplify the five Chinese elements. Views of Victoria Harbor from the lounge. Serves signature five-element juices and teas.
