Recreation
Jack Nicklaus designed the resort’s oceanfront Hualalai Golf Course, which is built over black-lava rock. Guests snorkel, scuba dive, and watch the tropical fish in the resort’s unique King’s Pool—a blend of cool spring and warm ocean water. The resort also has a rock-climbing wall, putting green, eight tennis courts, and four spa tubs. Adults, lap-swimmers, and infants all have their own swimming pools; the Sea Shell swimming pool has an infinity edge.
Complimentary fitness walks and pick-up basketball games are organized daily. Running trails of 2.4 to 5.3 miles wind around the property. Guests can register for tennis clinics, beach volleyball, and boogie board cruises (fee). Yoga, spinning, Pilates, tai chi, aqua fit, power fit, and interval training classes are also regularly offered (fee).
At the Kaupulehu Cultural Center, guests can learn about Hawaiian arts and horticulture through introductory quilting and ukulele lessons; cultural and plant tours; pandanus weaving and shell-bracelet making; and sessions with an artist in residence.
The spa has an outdoor eucalyptus steam room and sauna, spa tub, and cold plunge pool. Massages and facials are available in 18 indoor and outdoor rooms, including two exclusively for “wet” treatments such as body scrubs and mud applications. A salon offers hair styling, manicures, and pedicures.
Children’s activities include outrigger canoeing (fee). The complimentary Kids For All Seasons programs are offered year round for 5-12 year olds, and the Tsunami teen center has ping pong, foosball, a pool table, videogames, computers, and board games.

General Information
What to expect: This collection of 36 two-story bungalows is frequented by business travelers, celebrating couples, and relaxing families. Open-air dining and Polynesian-style decor throughout emphasize the backdrop of black-lava rock against white-sand beaches. Although recreational and cultural offerings abound, the pace is unhurried and the setting feels remote.
Amenity highlights: Jack Nicklaus designed the oceanfront golf course, which is built on black-lava rock. A cultural center with artists-in-residence offers courses for all ages, from traditional Hawaiian crafts, and dance, to music. Five swimming pools spread across the oceanfront include three for scuba and snorkeling with tropical fish, and others for lap swimming and adults. Fitness facilities include a rock-climbing wall and eight tennis courts. The spa, with 18 treatment rooms, also has eucalyptus steam, dry sauna, and a cold plunge.
Insider tip: At the on-site general store (within walking distance of guestrooms), guests can charge groceries for their rooms or gas for their rental cars to their resort account.
Dining
Pahu i’a - The hotel’s signature restaurant is open for à la carte or buffet breakfast as well as dinner. Diners enjoy panoramic ocean views from the open-air dining room. The restaurant serves contemporary Pacific Cuisine, with a menu changing daily to utilize the freshest island ingredients.
Club Grille - This open-air, casual dining room serving lunch overlooks the palm-tree-filled greens. Low, black-lava walls line the lanai, and an outrigger canoe is suspended over planters in the middle of the dining room. In addition to sandwiches and salads served daily, the menu includes traditional Japanese and Filipino rice and noodle dishes.
Beach Tree Bar & Grill - Fresh island seafood and salads are served all day in this casual open-air waterfront dining room. Two theme buffet dinners—Surf, Sand, and Stars Barbecue on Saturday and Asian Night on Wednesday—are served weekly.
