Hotel Information: A winding driveway leads to the porte-cochere of the Westin Denarau Island Resort and Spa. A cascade of pools precedes the open-air reception, where fans whirl under high ceilings. Guests, mostly Australians and New Zealanders, but also Americans and Japanese, relax in the lounge areas. Traditional Pacific-Island artefacts decorate the public areas, and in the evenings flaming torches light the gardens and pools.
Amenity highlights: The Westin Denarau Island Resort offers a full-service health spa, supervised kids’ club, and comprehensive conference facilities. A wide variety of water-oriented recreational opportunities include spa tubs, water sports, and several swimming pools; a fitness centre and a variety of games and sports, such as lawn bowling, are also available. Guests have access to a private beach and the adjacent Denarau Golf and Racquet Club for golf and tennis.
Insider tip: The resort is less than half an hour's drive from the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. This landscaped garden has a wide variety of native Fijian plants, a native forest and lily ponds, as well as a collection of more than 2,000 varieties of orchid. The garden was developed in the 1970s by TV star Raymond Burr of Perry Mason fame. The small house adjacent to the gardens houses memorabilia from the actor's life.
Spa
The Westin Heavenly Spa comprises a series of pavilions set in a 1,400-square-metre meditation garden with lily ponds. There are 12 Fijian-style bures with open-air showers and massage tables. One of the bures offers a Vichy shower, another a hydrotherapy tub, while two others are couples suites with air-conditioned lounge areas and an outdoor tub. The spa’s changing rooms have steam rooms, rain showers, outdoor showers, and a relaxation area.
