Shangri-La's Fijian Resort & Spa

Hotel Information:Visitors drive across a causeway and onto private Yanuca Island, where the driveway meanders through extensive grounds to the porte-cochere of the Shangri-La Fijian Resort. The open-air lobby pavilion has a vaulted roof and whirling ceiling fans. Guests, mostly from Australia and New Zealand, but also the UK, USA, and Japan, should head straight ahead to the wooden reception desk.

Amenity highlights: The Shangri-La Fijian Resort has three swimming pools, a full-service health spa, a nine hole executive golf course, tennis courts, a fitness centre, and offers numerous water sports. A games room contains table tennis and arcade games. There is also a children’s playground and TV room, and a complimentary kids’ club. Other facilities include a wedding chapel and a shopping arcade.

Insider tip: The Shangri-La Fijian Resort stands on the Coral Coast, which runs along the west coast of Viti Levu. It is well worth taking a day to explore the byways along the coast, which combine rocky bays and beaches with rolling hills, farmland, and fishing villages. The road passes through mostly agricultural land between Nadi and Sigatoka, but thereafter runs along the ocean from the point where the Shangri-La Fijian Resort is located.

Location Details

Nadi International Airport (NAN): Approximate travel time is 60 minutes and distance is 60 km.

Getting there: Taxi is the most practical way for guests to travel from the airport to the Shangri-La Fijian Resort. The resort can also arrange a pick-up on request by private car or minivan. Seaplane and helicopter transfers are also possible. Car rentals are available online. Click the links below for instructions/details.

Getting around: Taxis or rental cars are the most reliable way of getting around in Fiji, although there is also a network of long-distance and local buses. The resort can also organise private cars or tour vans. Few taxis have meters, so the fare must be settled at the start of the journey. Express buses travel down the Coral Coast (south of Nadi) and stop on the main road at the turn-off to the Shangri-La Fijian Resort, but depart from Nadi only early in the morning. The resort is a 1 km walk from the road. Local buses without air conditioning also make the journey, except on Sundays, running from Nadi International Airport to Nadi Town and down the coast. The fare is less than FJ$10 (AU$7.50). Share taxis and minivans also operate, but many are unlicensed and unsafe.

Driving directions from Nadi International Airport (NAN): Turn right onto Queen’s Road as soon as you leave the airport (it is signposted towards Nadi). Follow the road to Nadi and beyond for about 55 km. There is only one coastal highway, signposted to Suva, although the ocean itself is rarely in sight. Eventually the ocean comes into sight and, over the crest of a hill, a sweeping view of the bay and Shangri-La Fijian Resort comes into view. The turnoff to the resort is clearly signposted from the road, to the right; the causeway to the island, which has fluttering flags, is hard to miss. Head across the causeway, then along the island driveway, to the reception area of the resort.
