Outrigger on the Lagoon - Fiji

Hotel Information: A short driveway leads to the porte-cochere of the Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji and leads into the open-air lobby, where fans whirl high in a vaulted ceiling. Guests from Australia and New Zealand, as well as the UK and North America, congregate at groups of leather sofas and low tables decorated with tropical flowers. The reception is on the left, backed by a Fijian scene. Wood carvings decorate the walls. Straight ahead, the lobby opens up to a balcony with sweeping views over the resort and lagoon. Restaurants and sports facilities are scattered through the 40-acre landscaped gardens, where streams flow and frogs croak.

Insider tip: Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji stands on the Coral Coast, which runs along the west coast of Viti Levu. It is well worth taking a day to explore the byways along the coast, which combines rocky bays and beaches with rolling hills, farmland and fishing villages. The Coral Coast ends at Waidrka Bay, which is known for its surfing. The side road from nearby Sigatoka, the Sigatoka Valley Road, follows a river among some splendid scenery and sugarcane fields and ends at Tavuni, where there are remains of ancient tribal fortifications.
