Hotel Information: The Apex International Hotel was opened in 1996 and fully renovated in 2001. Guests enter from the cobbled Grassmarket, and ascend stairs to a lobby with polished tile floor, dark wood reception desk, striking modern artworks and leather sofas. To the right of the lobby, the split-level Metro brasserie and bar overlooks the Grassmarket and offers views up to the castle.
Amenity highlights: Guests enjoy complimentary access to the extensive Yu-Time spa. Located on the basement level, the spa comprises gym, sauna, solarium, and stainless steel pool with street and castle views. The top-floor Heights restaurant serves a range of contemporary Scottish and international dishes, and offers views of Edinburgh Castle which is lit up at night; the chic Metro brasserie on the lower ground floor is open daily for lunch and dinner.
Insider tip: Opened to the public in 2003, ‘The Real Mary King's Close’ lies 500 metres from the hotel and consists of a number of underground streets. Hidden beneath the City Chambers on the Royal Mile, this warren of narrow passageways dates back to the 16th century. Guided tours reveal how people lived in days gone by, and take place every day except Christmas Day.
Rooms
The Apex International Hotel, Edinburgh, has 171 guestrooms spread over five floors. All rooms feature parquet floor entranceways and contemporary decor with deep-coloured fabrics, oversized wood headboards, suede upholstered chairs, and limited edition black-and-white photographic prints by celebrated Scottish artist Richard Demarco.
Rooms come equipped with wireless Internet, DVD players, tea and coffee making facilities, and direct-dial phones. Tiled bathrooms have black granite counters, wall-to-wall steam-free mirrors, walk-in showers or shower/tub combinations, and complimentary rubber ducks.
Some rooms have castle views and others overlook George Heriots School, the spires of which are said to have been author JK Rowling’s inspiration for Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter novels.

Yu-Time is located on the hotel’s basement level, and houses a gym with treadmills, exercise bikes, weight machines and wall-mounted TVs; complimentary bottled water and towels are provided. There is also a stainless steel, ozone-treated pool with views out to the Grassmarket and castle, and a ‘tropicarium’ with sauna and solarium. Access to the spa is complimentary and is exclusive to Apex Hotel guests.
Arthur's Seat, two miles from the hotel, offers many different walks with views over Edinburgh Castle and the old town and, on clear days, to the Ochil Hills and the Firth of Forth. There are over 20 golf courses in and around the city.

Metro - Modern split-level bar and brasserie overlooking the Grassmarket and Edinburgh Castle.
