Hotel Information: Monarchs, heads of state, and celebrities have made the Ritz-Carlton their home while in Washington. The lobby is a collection of wood-paneled rooms furnished with antique reproductions, Oriental rugs, marble tiles, and the works of artists such as Dale Chihuly.
Insider tip: The terminus for the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal is 6 blocks from the hotel in Georgetown. The old waterway courses its way through 75 locks and verdant woods before ending in Cumberland, Maryland, 185 miles northwest. Mules still tow the barges—now full of tourists—on the canal. Towpaths along the canal form popular hiking and biking trails.
