Hotel Information: Designed by celebrated Danish architect Anton Rosen, the Savoy Hotel’s striking original façade is decorated with green and gold plasterwork and overlooks the bustling Vesterbrogade. Guests step into a quiet lobby with wooden floors decorated with antique-style rugs and potted plants. Beyond the semi-circular reception desk, tourists lounge on leather couches watching television and browsing the newspapers.
Amenity highlights: Guests can relax in the small courtyard against a backdrop of ivy-clad and red-brick walls adorned with gargoyles. Entering the hotel from the courtyard, guests can see the original turn-of-the-century elevator and woodwork of the old staircase, which features carvings of lions in reference to the building’s original name, Lovenborg – literally, Castle of the Lions.
Insider tip: Directly to the right of the hotel entrance is Emmerys Patisserie, where sandwiches are made with homemade bread baked to a 5,000 year-old recipe using just organic flour, salt and water. About one kilometre away in the opposite direction from Tivoli lies Vega, one of Copenhagen’s biggest nightclubs and live music venues.
