The Royal Solaris offers 500 air-conditioned guestrooms in two eight-story sand-colored sections. One section is a tower; the other resembles a seaside village with red-tile roofs and courtyards.

Décor includes white walls, ceilings, and crown molding, pale-gray tile floors, caramel-color furniture, and bright bedspreads. Some rooms include ground-floor terraces, some include step-out balconies, and some have no terraces or balconies.

Rooms provide 21-inch TVs with satellite programming, clock radios with CD players, and direct-dial phones with voice mail. In-room safes are available (daily surcharge).

Recreation

Non-stop activities at this resort include a range of water and land sports as well as pool games, swimming contests, the Miss and Mr. Solaris contest, Perfect Couples contest, fashion shows, and bingo. Plus, there are lessons in Spanish and Latin dance as well as aerobic and other exercise sessions. Younger guests stay busy with their own Kids’ Club which offers supervised activities such as video games, arts and crafts, and painting classes. Use of snorkeling gear on the beach and pedal boats, kayaks, and windsurfers at this Cancun resort's marina on Nichupté Lagoon, the large, placid body of water lying between Cancún Island and the mainland, is complimentary.

Hotel staff can arrange other activities such as scuba diving certification courses and scuba trips, parasailing, sport fishing, and waterskiing. Two 18-hole golf courses are within 13 km (8 miles). The hotel’s new VIKS Club offers a 6,324-square-foot recreation area for children. Supervised activities include video games, arts and crafts, and painting lessons. The mini water park features The Arch, a themed aquatic area with elephants, gorillas, zebras, rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, giraffes, and a children’s pool and three waterslides. The club is open morning until early evening in the winter, and morning until evening in the summer.

Know Before You Go

If a hurricane strikes during the stay and causes the hotel to interrupt full operations for 24 hours, the hotel will offer a certificate for a return stay at the same resort for the same number of nights as the original stay.

The certificate is only offered if a hurricane hits during the stay, and is not redeemable for cash or transferable. Airfare and transfers are not included.

There are no penalties for cancellations made less than 72 hours after a hurricane strikes.

No show penalties are also waived up to five days after the original travel dates if a hurricane strikes.

If guests wish to postpone the vacation for a later date due to a hurricane, the original rate will be protected for a short time. Rescheduling must take place within 30 days after the hurricane strikes. Rate protection only applies to original number of travel days. Additional days must be booked at the current rate.
