Hotel Information: This intimate, upscale 35-room villa hotel is located on secluded Isla Mujeres, a tiny island 15 minutes off the coast of Cancun. Nestled between the Caribbean and Laguna Makax, and with its own private beach, Villa Rolandi is a wonderful setting for a tranquil getaway. Mexican-Mediterranean interiors feature local Tikul stone floors, marble mats, and tiled vaulted ceilings.
Amenity highlights: Guests arriving at Cancun's Playa Linda dock from the airport between early morning and early evening are ferried by yacht to the resort's private pier on Laguna Makax. (The service is round-trip.) The resort offers a private beach with powdery white sands, a Thalasso spa, and an outdoor pool with waterfall, sun patio, and food and beverage service. Locally renowned Swiss-North Italian cuisine is served in a beachside terrace restaurant.
Insider tip: Isla Mujeres is visited between June and September by hundreds of whale sharks. The whale shark is the largest living fish species. The sharks congregate just north of Isla Mujeres in a seven-mile radius to take advantage of the plankton-rich waters created by the joining of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Ask the concierge for details on how to see these sharks in their natural habitat.
Rooms
Each of the 35 spacious suites features a private, ocean-view balcony with a spa tub.
Suites are decorated in a modern Mexican-Mediterranean style, with soft neutral colors and finishes in Italian marble and local “Tikul” stone. Beds are dressed with Egyptian cotton linens and goose-down duvets. All rooms are equipped with LCD TVs, minibars, direct-dial phones, and safes. Bathrooms include bathrobes, slippers, Bulgari bath products, and marble showers with dual showerheads.
