Guestrooms are decorated to reflect both the Far North Queensland environment and the hotel’s Colonial heritage, with tropical-style bedspreads and beige colour scheme. A dedicated saltwater children’s public swimming area and playground are located at the Cairns Esplanade Swimming Lagoon (two blocks). Also within two blocks are The Esplanade and Barlow Park, which are both popular locations for walking and jogging. Fogarty Park (200 metres) has historical significance, featuring many statues of the forefathers of Cairns and Far North Queensland. Built in 1885, this Colonial-style hotel was the first to offer hotel accommodation in Cairns. It retains several original features including an original clay wall in the lobby. Driving directions from Cairns Domestic and International Airport (CNS): Follow Airport Drive and turn left at the T intersection onto the Captain Cook Highway. Follow the Captain Cook Highway as it becomes Sheridan Street. Continue along Sheridan Street right to the end and turn left into Spence Street. Turn left into Lake Street, (the second street on the left); the hotel is located 20 metres along Lake Street.

Schedules and directions (subject to change without notice): Shuttle bus service is available from the airport (no booking required) but the resort recommends a taxi because the shuttle bus stops many times along the route and a taxi is quicker and no more expensive.

Hides Coffee Café - Serves daily complimentary breakfast, plus à la carte lunch and dinner seven days. Children’s menu available. Licensed to serve alcohol.

PJ O’Brien’s Irish Bar and Grill - Located on the premises but not owned by the hotel. Hotel guests receive an evening meal voucher entitling them to soup or stew and a salad. Also receive 20 percent discount on all other food purchases. Bar and grill offers indoor air-conditioned or al fresco-style dining; open from late morning to late night.
