Recreation
In the summer of 2002, The Essex, Vermont's Culinary Resort and Spa, premiered its on-site golf course, The Links at Lang Farm. There is also a nearby Jack Nicklaus–designed course at the Vermont National Country Club, and there are approximately 17 courses within 45 minutes of The Essex Resort and Spa.
The hotel also has tennis courts and an outdoor pool on site, and guests can go snowmobiling on the grounds in the winter.
In addition, several well-known ski resorts are nearby—and in some cases hotel guests can receive discount lift tickets to the complexes; inquire at the resort. Stowe, Smugglers' Notch, Sugarbush, and Jay Peak are all within a 45-minutes drive. There are myriad other outdoor activities in the area, from swimming and ice fishing at Lake Champlain to hiking, horseback riding, and llama trekking.
Other activities offered include hot air balloon rides, fly fishing, golf, tennis and tennis lessons, and ropes course.

The Essex, Vermont's Culinary Resort and Spa, is home to the northernmost campus of the acclaimed New England Culinary Institute (NECI). The resort’s two restaurants are working classrooms, where future chefs prepare innovative cuisine under the guidance of expert instructors.
Butler's Restaurant - Updated classic cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; the tempting dinner menu changes daily. Reservations are recommended and dress is “smart casual.”
The Tavern - Open daily for snacks and light meals in the afternoon and for dinner in the evening, the Tavern features casual American fare, daily specials, and occasional live entertainment.
