Travel Details

Peter Island Resort & Yacht Harbour

Hotel Information: With guests discouraged from bringing children under age 8 and no televisions in guestrooms and suites, the resort attracts adults seeking rest, relaxation, and privacy. In addition to its five beaches, the hilly island offers myriad points for viewing the sea and neighboring islands along a narrow road suitable for bicycling, walking, and touring by complimentary shuttle. Resort wear dress (long pants, collared shirt, and closed-toe shoes for men) is expected in the lobby area. The room price is Full American Plan (FAP), with all meals (but not beverages) included.

Amenity highlights: Five beaches grace the resort. Crescent-shaped Deadman's Bay Beach extends about 1 mile and provides swimming, snorkeling, and water sports opportunities. Although all Virgin Island beaches are public, the resort steers day-visitors to Little Deadman's Bay Beach so resort guests have the larger beach to themselves. Tiny Honeymoon Beach offers intimacy and a single thatched-roof shade. Big Reef Bay Beach's 0.75-mile length is for beachcombing. Furnished with lounges and umbrellas, White Bay Beach is noted for snorkeling, turtle-watching, and privacy. For freshwater swimming, a freeform pool surrounded by cushioned lounge chairs lies between the lobby and the Caribbean.

Insider tip: A few chairs provide a spot to view sunsets 400 feet above sea level near the island's southernmost point. Complimentary shuttle service transports guests here, where they enjoy panoramic views not only of the setting sun but of the Caribbean, the U.S. Virgin Island of St. John, and Norman Island, where Robert Louis Stevenson located the action in Treasure Island.

Rooms

The resort offers 52 air-conditioned guestrooms and suites in 13 two-story buildings constructed of concrete and fieldstone, trimmed in green-painted wood and mahogany, and nearly concealed by tropical gardens. All rooms and suites provide at least partial views of the Caribbean Sea from second-floor balconies or ground-floor patios. Palm tree fronds partially screen sea views from balconies. Gardens partially screen sea views from patios. Each balcony or patio is furnished with a teak two-chair dining set and a cushioned teak lounge chair.

Decor features mahogany trim, rattan and wicker furniture, tile floors, area rugs, and West Indian prints on walls. Radio/CD players provide entertainment. Rooms and suites do not include televisions, but television/VCR combinations are available on request. Television reception, however, is not available in rooms and suites (only in the resort's library). Video movies may be borrowed at no charge. Guests are given Peter Island-logo flip-flop slippers and an island-music CD to use and take home. Wood chests outside each building contain ice.

Ocean-view rooms are located near the lobby building, which contains Tradewinds Restaurant and Drake's Lounge and is fronted by a freshwater swimming pool and the library/television building.

Beachfront junior suites are located on the western wing of crescent-shaped Deadman's Bay Beach, 3-minute walks from the lobby building in one direction and Deadman's Beach Bar & Grill in the other, with ground-floor suites providing direct beach access from their patios.
