Dining

The Dining Room - Considered one of Boston’s most stately restaurants since 1927, and popular with the pre-theater crowd. Room décor is French Provincial in soft blues and yellows that complement the changing seasons in the Public Garden viewed from the windows. Tables are formally set with cobalt-blue glassware inspired by the room’s Czechoslovakian glass chandeliers. Open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday, and a Sunday buffet brunch. Reservations required; collared shirts and slacks required for men; jackets are recommended.

The Café - A wall of windows with panoramic views of Newbury Street creates a lively backdrop for power breakfasts, animated lunches, and pre- or post-theater dining on such traditional American favorites as chicken pot pie, lobster salad, and clam chowder. Open daily for breakfast and lunch; dinner Sunday through Thursday. Collared shirts and slacks required for men during the day; jackets suggested for evenings.

The Bar - This well-known spot for cocktails opened in the 1930s to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition. Upholstered chairs around intimate tables. Fireplace, views of the Public Garden, club-like atmosphere, dark-wood paneling. Monday through Saturday, guests come for the famous martinis, samplings of Scotch, and signature Ritz Fizz. Light dining also available.

The Lounge - The hotel’s spacious drawing room, with windows overlooking Newbury Street, is an ideal setting for afternoon tea, glass of port, and champagne. Tea offered Wednesday and Thursday during two seatings, with music by a harpist. Special teas for children are offered throughout the year, including a Nutcracker Tea and a Teddy Bear Tea. Reservations are required.
