Hotel Information: The soaring marble lobby, renovated in February 2004, is inspired by the mythical Shangri-La of the novel Lost Horizon. It evokes a Himalayan landscape with its huge glass walls, exotic artwork, sweeping staircase, and large, cloud-like crystal chandeliers, whose black crystals and topaz beads reflect brilliant colors. It’s a busy rendezvous for government officials, businesspeople, and conventioneers.
Amenity highlights: Major renovations in August 2004 introduced vibrant new restaurants and extensive business amenities, including high-speed Internet access (surcharge) in hotel public areas. The hotel is surrounded by a 3,000-square-meter (32,000-sq-ft) traditional Chinese garden with koi pond, pavilions, waterfalls, and 100 species of flowers and trees. Recreational facilities include a 25-meter (65-ft) indoor pool and a fitness center with sauna.
Insider tip: Purple Bamboo Park, one of the largest in Beijing, offers a refreshing break from the city, with picturesque islands, the remnants of an old temple, and three lakes connected by five bridges. It’s about 1.5 km (1 mi) from the hotel.
Spa
Eleven large private suites inside the Chi at the Shangri-La offer all guests a “spa within a spa,” each containing a changing area, bath and steam, spa shower, and a lounge for comfort and relaxation. Over 35 spa experiences are offered in the earth-toned, commodious suites.
Age-old healing techniques inspire a holistic approach to promoting heath, well-being, and relaxation. Tailored individually according to each guests “elemental sign,” a wide-ranges of treatments were created by specialists to encourage balance and harmony to mind and body.

A unique blend of Asian techniques personalised to suite each guests current Ying/Yang status, focusing on the earth element (building chi), wood element (moving chi), and fire element (clarity and peace of mind). Techniques include acupressure, energising massage for “yang” stimulation and a relaxing massage for “yin” calm. Pure oriental element oils are used to harmonise chi flow. Mountain Tsampa Rub (60 minutes)
Softer than salt, this Tibetan Tsampa barley rub is the ideal postscript for relaxing massage, absorbing the oils and leaving the skin exfoliated and fresh. The use of essential oil encourages skin rejuvenation whilst the grains gently remove dead cells. Skin tone and texture are reviatalised and refreshed. Crystal Energising Facial
This pampering treatment employs the power of nourishing Biodroga face cream to treat skin with crystal wands for optimum results. The smooth, calming, and pampering massage movements with the crystal wands revitalise the skin at the cellular level, leaving it velvety soft and radiant with a health glow—a real treat not only for the skin, but also for the well-being of the body, mind, and soul.
