Hotel Information: A fountain and a tinkling, automated grand piano serenade the busy local and international guests and tour groups that mingle in the hotel lobby. The reception desk is backed by a silver and gold wall in Chinese design. To the left lies the lobby restaurant; to the right, a café and patisserie, lending the lobby a pleasant air of activity. On the upper floor of the atrium-style lobby lie restaurants and conference areas. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows provide abundant natural light. Throughout the hotel, plants in Chinese pots, and a variety of traditional prints decorate corridors.
Insider tip: Just south of the Prime Hotel, the contemporary energy of China is on show along Wangfujing, the capital’s most renowned shopping street. To the north, however, lie the back lakes, surrounded by a meandering network of old alleyways and traditional courtyard (hutong) houses that have so far survived redevelopment. A wander through the neighborhood gives a glimpse of street life, and a flavor of imperial China that has now largely been confined to palaces and museums.
