The Como Shambhala Spa welcomes its guests with minimalist elegance expressed through the predominantly white colour palette, low furniture, and natural-fibre and dark- wood furnishings. The ten treatment rooms echo the minimalist design to provide guests with a tranquil retreat.

The spa’s very own COMO Shambhala products are used for all beauty and massage treatments. The range includes shower gels, massage oils, body scrubs, and scented candles, all of which contain local botanical ingredients such as ginger, basil, lemon, and camphor.

Guestrooms at the Metropolitan Bangkok Hotel have minimalist interiors that reflect a Zen-like ambience. Décor includes low, clean-cut teak wood furniture, commissioned Thai artwork, and designer lighting by Isometrix. Premium bedding includes Thai silk bedspreads, crisp white 500-thread-count Egyptian cotton linens, and goose down duvets and pillows; non-allergenic pillows are available on request. Bathrooms are clad with sleek off-white marble, and offer spacious vanity tops, plush bathrobes, and COMO Shambhala toiletries. Other amenities include DVD/CD players; high-speed or wireless Internet access; bedside lighting-control panels; and cordless dual-line, direct-dial phones. The COMO Shambhala Urban Escape is a 1,200-square-metre (12,920-square-foot) health and spa facility comprising a yoga studio, 24-hour fitness centre, his and hers steam rooms, hydro-pools, and a full array of spa services. Trainers are on site to assist guests with their workouts, and complimentary yoga lessons are held daily. Private sessions with a personal trainer can be arranged (surcharge). A 20-metre (65-foot) outdoor lap pool is located next to the Cy’an restaurant.

Lumpini Park, just 0.6 km (0.4 mile) away, offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including evening outdoor aerobics, a running and cycling track, a playground, and pedal boats for hire. The 27-hole golf course at Panya Golf Club, designed by Ronald Fream, is 40 km (25 miles) from the hotel.

Getting there: The most cost-effective way of getting to the Metropolitan Bangkok Hotel is by metered taxi. Another alternative is the airport limousine service, which is conveniently located on the same level as the Arrivals hall. This service costs more than a taxi, but avoids long taxi queues; furthermore, larger vehicles are available for small groups. The hotel limousine service incorporates a luxury sedan and a hotel representative who meets guests just beyond the baggage-claims area. Rental cars are not recommended for travellers unfamiliar with this area. Car rentals are available online.

Cy’an - Mediterranean cuisine with Moorish flair. Emphasis on fresh seafood. Specialties, such as the Chef’s tasting menu, include a sampling of various courses. Glow - Gourmet deli and juice bar. Serves light and healthy cuisine using local organic ingredients. Menu includes scrambled egg whites, wheat-grass juice, and green-curry tofu.
