Hotel Information: Modeled after a Scottish baronial castle, this mountain resort is built of locally quarried Rundle limestone from nearby Exshaw. The exquisite floors and stairwells inside feature Tyndall Stone, a sedimentary rock imported from Manitoba that is studded with fossils and shells. The Fairmont Banff Springs appeals to a wide range of international travelers, and is popular with tour groups during summer months.
Amenity highlights: After an exhilarating day on the slopes or in the wilderness, guests can adjourn to the Willow Stream Spa to soak in the spa tubs and mineral pool or enjoy a rejuvenating spa treatment. Specialty boutiques are located on the resort's lobby level, and an adjoining conference center houses a ski shop, bowling alley, and theater. Numerous dining options include the acclaimed Banffshire Club restaurant, a sushi bar, and a Bavarian-style pub.
Insider tip: Curated by a local historian-in-residence and located on a balcony overlooking the lobby, Heritage Hall hosts an ever-changing series of exhibits that celebrate the mountain culture of the Canadian Rockies and the history of the Canadian Pacific Railroad.
