Recreation
Heritage Auckland features a rooftop heated swimming pool and adjacent fitness centre with sweeping views of the city and harbour. Main Harbour (approx. 10 km away) offers a boat launch, motorboat rental and windsurfing, while Mission Bay (approx. 7 km) has jet skiing and water skiing. The Harbour Bridge (2.5 km) has a famous bungee-jump, while Sky Tower in central Auckland (less than 500 metres) has a daring adrenaline activity known as Sky Jump. The large public park, Auckland Domain (2.5 km), is ideal for walking and jogging. Aerobics classes are available at the University of Auckland; Pilates and yoga in Victoria Street, both a short walk from Heritage Auckland. The Parnell Tennis Centre (approx. 5 km) has squash and tennis. Across the Harbour Bridge on the North Shore, Takapuna offers ten-pin bowling and windsurfing on Lake Pupuke (10 km). Coastal walks run for 25 km and can be joined at Takapuna Beach. The suburb of Bayswater offers kite-surfing and paragliding (14 km). Schedule and directions (subject to change without notice): Two bus companies operate shuttles from the airport, which can be caught directly outside both the domestic and international terminal buildings. Driving directions from Auckland International Airport (AKL): Leave the International Terminal by driving up Ray Emery Drive to the main set of traffic lights, following the signs directing you to Auckland. Turn left on to George Bolt Memorial Drive and follow this for approximately 5 km before merging with Motorway 20A. Follow the motorway over the Mangere Bridge and then take the Queenstown Road exit. Turn right on the bridge over the motorway and proceed on the bridge over the motorway along Pah Road, which becomes Manukau Road. Turn left on Epsom Road. Turn right on Gillies Avenue and follow this to the on-ramp for the Northern Motorway 1. Take the Nelson Street exit. At the end of Nelson Street, turn right into Fanshawe Street, and immediately right again into Hobson Street, a one-way street in this direction. Heritage Auckland is on the right.
Know Before You Go
There are no lifeguards on duty at the hotel swimming pools. Adults should remain with children under 12 years of age at all times. Pets (other than seeing-eye dogs) are not permitted at Heritage Auckland. Tipping is not generally expected in New Zealand.
