Insider tip: The CityLife Auckland is less than 2 km from Karangahape Road, well known for its eclectic range of stores, art galleries, and eateries. Some 600 metres further along, it intersects with Ponsonby Road. Auckland is known as the City of Sails and there are many opportunities for sailing around its harbour and islands. Main Harbour (10 minutes away) offers a boat launch, motorboat rental and windsurfing, while Mission Bay (20 minutes) has jet skiing and water skiing. The Harbour Bridge (2.4 km) has a famous bungee-jump, while Sky Tower in central Auckland (less than 500 metres) has a daring adrenaline-pumping activity known as Sky Jump. The large public park, Auckland Domain (2.3 km), is ideal for walking and jogging. Aerobics classes are available at the University of Auckland and Pilates and yoga in Victoria Street, both a short walk from the CityLife Auckland hotel. The Parnell Tennis Centre (15 minutes) has squash and tennis.
Across the Harbour Bridge on the North Shore, Takapuna offers ten-pin bowling and windsurfing on Lake Pupuke (10 km). Coastal walks of 25 km can be joined at Takapuna Beach. The suburb of Bayswater offers kite-surfing and paragliding (14 km). Visitors can use the Takapuna Public Golf Course (7 km) or the Waitemata Golf Course in Devonport (10 km) by arrangement.

The Auckland City Link Service is likely the most useful route for visitors. Schedule and directions (subject to change without notice): Two bus companies operate shuttles from the airport, which can be caught directly outside both the domestic and international terminals. There is no fixed itinerary; the shuttle drops passengers off at hotels and other locations on request. They depart approximately every twenty minutes.

Driving directions from Auckland International Airport (AKL): Leave the International Terminal by driving up Ray Emery Drive to the main set of traffic lights, following the signs directing you to Auckland. Turn left onto George Bolt Memorial Drive and continue for approximately 5 km before merging with Motorway 20A. Follow the motorway over the Mangere Bridge and then take the Queenstown Road exit. Turn right on the bridge over the motorway and proceed along Pah Road, which becomes Manukau Road. Turn left on Epsom Road. Turn right on Gillies Avenue and follow this to the on-ramp for the Northern Motorway 1. Take the Symonds Street exit and proceed down Symonds Street. Turn left into Wakefield Street and right into Queen Street. Turn left into Durham Lane, where the hotel’s main entrance is located. There is also a pedestrian-only side entrance on Queen Street.
Know Before You Go
There are no lifeguards on duty at the hotel swimming pool. Adults should remain with children under 12 years of age at all times. Pets (other than guide dogs) are not permitted at the CityLife Auckland. Tipping is not generally expected in New Zealand.
