Aspen Meadows Resort

Hotel Information: The secluded, 40-acre Aspen Meadows Resort is one mile from downtown Aspen. It attracts guests who include affluent fans of the Aspen Music Festival, avid skiers, and business professionals and diplomats attending seminars at the Aspen Institute, an international nonprofit organization located on the resort grounds. Guests register at the reception center, centrally located to the two-story buildings housing the 98 guest suites.

Amenity highlights: Guests drink cocktails by the fire in the Hefner Lounge and dine on a terrace overlooking the mountains and wooded riverbank. The health club offers a range of workout equipment, a half-court gym, steam rooms, and an outdoor pool and spa tub. Complimentary wireless Internet access is provided throughout the resort.

Insider tip: In the Ute Cemetery—one of Aspen’s oldest burial grounds—200 Americans, including 30 Civil War veterans, were laid to rest. Until it was restored in 2003, the simple hillside graveyard was covered with plants and mountain bike trails. Today, visitors can stroll through the rustic cemetery; a walking brochure helps visitors interpret the experience.
