Historic Inns of Annapolis

Hotel Information: The inn's three 18th-century buildings stand in the heart of Annapolis, a few yards away from the shops, galleries, restaurants, and historic homes that line the narrow streets. Historic Inns of Annapolis attracts tourists and wedding groups on weekends, corporate groups during the week, and state legislators and lobbyists from January to April, when the general assembly is in session.

Amenity highlights: In a city loaded with historic homes, the inn's stately buildings command attention. The biggest is Calvert House, a 55-room Colonial that faces the State House. Robert Johnson House is a Federal-style building with 25 rooms, and the 44-room Maryland Inn affords good views of the town from its wide porches. All buildings were renovated in March 2006. Guests have complimentary use of the tennis courts and running track at the Naval Academy, one mile away.

Insider tip: To get a feel for the political scene that dominates Annapolis, guests can walk a few blocks south to Chick & Ruth's Delly at 165 Main Street, where menu items are named after state pols.

Remodeled in March 2006, The Historic Inns of Annapolis features 124 rooms in a series of stately buildings.

Facing the State House is the Governor Calvert House, offering 55 guestrooms in a brick Colonial. Views include the State House, the waterfront, or Main Street. This inn also features the famous Hypocaust, a unique greenhouse system, visible through a glass floor in the lobby.

The Maryland Inn offers 44 guestrooms, each offering a unique floor plan. Views include the State House, the waterfront, or Main Street. This inn has hosted presidents and governors.

The Robert Johnson House is a Federal-style building with 25 guestrooms. Views include the State House and the State Circle.

All rooms provide plush-top mattresses, feather pillows, and 26-inch flat-screen TVs.
