This hotel has 21 guestrooms in one-story oceanfront cottages with patios. Room décor is local island style with tile floor, dark-wood platform beds, armchair, end tables, ceiling fan, and stand-alone fan. Some rooms have a sofa. All rooms feature locally-made batik fabric curtains and bedspreads. Eleven of the rooms are air-conditioned and of these, four are two-bedroom, shared bathroom cabins for families and single travelers. A surcharge applies for air conditioning.

Recreation

Guests can try their hand at a variety of water sports including sea swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing. Fishing can be done from the on-site dock and in the adjacent creek. Andros is renowned for bone fishing, a sport which the lodge can arrange, along with reef fishing and deep-sea fishing (surcharges for all excursions). Children 6 years and older can try scuba diving using a small tank at the surface. Although the beginner’s Discovery Scuba diving course is complimentary, full scuba diving courses, certification, and trips incur surcharges. Scuba is extremely popular here; boats leave from the lodge’s dock, with the average boat trip to reef, wall, wreck, cavern, and other sites about 15 minutes.

Biking and hiking are also popular. Nature trails are both on site and in the immediate area, allowing guests to easily encounter the island’s profusion of orchids, butterflies, and birds. The resort provides bicycles.

This seaside lodge is three miles north of the small town of Fresh Creek on Andros, the largest island in the Bahamas. Its proximity to Andros Barrier Reef makes it popular among divers and snorkelers. And its easygoing style means guests have limited access to phones and fax; Internet access is complimentary in the lodge office, but there are no newspapers or guestroom TVs.

Guests can relax in hammocks strung between palm trees or in a spa tub on the beach. A range of water activities are offered on site, including windsurfing and sailing, and a common area with sofas, chairs, and fireplace provides games, ecology information, and ocean views.

Small Hope Bay Lodge Restaurant - Continental/Bahamian fare specializing in fresh seafood. Serves a full à la carte breakfast with Bahamian specialties, buffet lunch, afternoon hors d’oeuvres, and buffet dinner, either indoors or outdoors on the patio overlooking the ocean. Vegetarians are easily accommodated; guests should advise the staff of vegetarian preferences.
