Hotel Information: The Eden Hotel Amsterdam features a lobby constructed in 2006 that exemplifies contemporary styling. It has a grey slate floor, red accent carpet, white walls and ceilings, wood ceiling beams painted grey, a maroon accent wall and banquettes, and orchids. Insider tip: The Begijnhof, 500 metres from the hotel, encloses a green village square. Established in the 14th century to house pious women who cared for the sick, the Begijnhof banned dogs and roosters (too noisy) as well as males over three years old. Gatehouse carvings memorialize these ‘forbidden fruits’. No Beguines remain, and all visitors, including men, are now welcome.
